The sweet smell of success
Burger King is looking for franchisees with drive, energy and passion, so if this sounds like you, read on…
The Burger King network currently boasts more than 11,000 restaurants around the world in more than 60 countries. Its impressive growth relies on the success of franchisees. And today, with its focus on developing multi-site operations, Burger King provides an opportunity to realise your entrepreneurial potential.
Burger King, as many of you will be aware, has been doing this for a while, since 1957 in fact, and is pretty confident that it has got the expertise to help prospective franchisees find the right site for the right price. Once this has been done, Burger King’s design and construction teams will even pop along and make sure it looks great for your first day of trading.
Franchisees benefit from a team that researches ways of reducing initial investment. From new restaurant layouts to higher efficiency equipment, Burger King is developing different methods to deliver higher capacity and return on investment.
The restaurant giant’s marketing team turns innovative ideas into winning programmes that resonate with its guests, and expands the brand on a global level. Whether it’s on your franchise or halfway around the world, the company ensures that its guests know exactly what to expect when they see its logo.
Being a franchisee requires a lot of energy and commitment as Burger King customers expect exceptional value and service.
As a franchisee, you will be involved in the day-to-day running of your business, maximising the performance of your team. You will be investing in high achievers, motivating them through performance management, training and development programmes, and incentive schemes.
It is important that you and your team take pride in the fact that you offer customers a great Burger King experience through high standards in quality, service and cleanliness.
The cost
Depending on the type of restaurant and the investment model, the total amount invested by a franchisee can be between £250,000 and £800,000 (not including the cost of land in a free standing location). The total investments for the three main type of restaurants are as follows:
- A 700 sq ft food court kiosk starts at £250,000 plus
- £25,000 franchise fee
- A 1,000 sq ft high street location starts at £450,000 plus £25,000 franchise fee
- A 1,500 sq ft drive-thru starts at £550,000 plus £25,000 franchise fee

Getting in with Burger King
Burger King runs face-to-face open days at locations throughout the UK, focusing on key development areas within the north-east and north-west.
Tim Lowther, franchise sales manager, says: “In today’s highly competitive franchise marketplace it is crucial that I get wholly immersed in the recruitment process. I like to treat every potential applicant as a customer and try to focus on the personal motivations of each customer.
“During this process I have found that franchise applicants start to feel like customers, while appreciating a more personalised approach. Continuity throughout the process is maintained, as the person who makes the decision to take their application forward is the same person they see and talk to initially.”
Burger King is seeking individuals or business owners who are keen to expand their retail mix with up to four restaurants. If you’re serious about investing in your future and want to find out more go to www.burgerking.co.uk/franchise-operations and follow the ‘apply now’ link to complete a short pre-qualifying application form. This route will help the franchisor to quickly reach an initial decision regarding your interest in a Burger King franchise.
The form should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete and allows Burger King to get a good understanding of your current situation and requirements, enabling them to make a quick assessment of your application.
On completion of the application a member of the Burger King franchising team will contact you at the earliest opportunity. Alternatively call 0870 0429 469 or email ukfransales@whopper.com.
Rapid expansion with SSP
SSP, the food travel experts, chose Burger King as its franchise partner nearly ten years ago and now boasts Burger King outlets at a total of 15 airports, 23 rails sites and two shopping areas.
Here, SSP Marketing Communications Manager Alex Butcher reveals more...
Why did SSP choose Burger King as its franchise partner?
We have enjoyed an extremely successful partnership with Burger King for nearly ten years. It shares the same values of high quality food, great employees and listening to what the customer wants.
The main appeal about Burger King is the food. The flame grilling and 100 per cent beef used in its sandwiches are superior to the competition and gives Burger King a distinct edge. The name also gave us credibility with our clients where we operate in the travel environment and meet the needs of
our customers.
With regular meetings for all levels, from franchise principles to multi-site managers, we have worked with Burger King across all aspects of the business and as a result it is a true joint effort – a real partnership.
How has SSP found the training and support from Burger King?
Both have been excellent. At SSP, we place great importance in training and developing our people.
Burger King run a thorough training package designed to take new starters all the way up to the level of restaurant manager. Each staff member is issued with a passport upon induction, which allows them through every area of the operation.
Burger King also runs in-house courses to train managers at various levels of their development. In terms of support, we have a dedicated business manager who is always reachable for any issues that arise. We have quarterly meetings to allow both parties to air concerns or successes.
